GLOSSARY OF TERMS

  • Average Bulb Life
The mean hours of bulb life before failure. Individual bulb life experience may vary with actual environmental conditions (i.e. proper installation, ambient temperature, and input voltage fluctuations).

  • Energy Use
The amount of energy consumed by a single string of product.

  • Lead Length
The length of the wire from the plug, to the first bulb.

  • Maximum Single Run
At present, UL will only allow two or three strings to be connected together, and attached to a single outlet.* The maximum single run is the total of UL listed strings of product, less all power leads. Subtracting all power leads gives the UL listed maximum length, with equal bulb spacing, once all strings are attached together.
    *Please see individual product specifications.

LED strings have much longer runs.

  • String Length (without lead)
The length of a single string of product, less the power lead to the first bulb.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. When a bulb burns out, will I lose the entire string?
A. In all our Holiday Light strings, you will not lose the entire string if a bulb burns out. All the subminiature light strings have shunted filaments that allow the current to pass to the remaining bulbs if a filament were to burn out. All our C-7 & C-9 strings are parallel wired, and the burn out of a bulb does not affect the rest.

Q. What happens if I remove a bulb?
A. All our subminiature 110V strings have 2.5V bulbs, which are usually wired with 50 bulbs in series. If you remove one of these bulbs, you will lose the 50 bulbs that are located in that series circuit. All of C-7 & C-9 bulbs are parallel wired and 110V. If you remove a bulb, the remaining bulbs are not affected and all will light.

Q. How many strings can I connect together?
A. All our Holiday Light strings are UL listed for your safety. UL presently has a rule that most Holiday light strings can be interconnected for a total of two or three strings. Please see individual product specifications in this catalog and the product packaging.

Q. Can I cut a Holiday Light string?
A. No! All our Holiday light strings are designed and UL listed as an entire product. If you cut the string, you may get shocked, parts of the string may not work and all protection from UL listing will be void.

Q. Can I use Holiday Lights all year?
A. All UL listed Holiday Lights currently are labeled "For Temporary (90 days max.) installation and use only." UL has tested and listed these products for seasonal use. If you need a year round product, please see Leaf Lites or Marquee Lights on this web site.

Q. Can I get custom colored bulbs? Can I get strings without bulbs in them?
A. We only carry what is on this web site and do not have the ability of custom color bulbs. We do not sell strings without bulbs, as UL would not list the package in this manner.

Q. How many Holiday light strings are needed for a given tree?
A. Please use the formulas found on this web site.

Q. How can I get motion in my Holiday Lights?
A. The only way to achieve motion in Holiday Lights is to purchase the appropriate string. Our DXS-150 Chasing Holiday Lights have a controller with eight functions.
